- By enabling a check on the country of the buyer’s IP address.
- By enabling a check on the country of the bank issuing the payment method.
Checking the country of the buyer’s IP address
Lyra uses third-party services to geolocate the IP address used by the buyer.
The results are reliable in most cases. However, there is no standard regarding the use of IP address ranges based on geographic regions.
Internet service providers (ISPs) are therefore free to mix IP address ranges within the same geographic region.
Additionally, the information may be inaccurate if the buyer is using a VPN connection.
Checking the country of the bank issuing the payment method
The payment platform uses databases provided by Visa and Mastercard to determine the country of origin of the payment method.
These databases are reliable and allow for more precise blocking than checking the country of the IP address.
This solution is therefore recommended.
